Edward Nicholas Pahls was born on April 15, 1925 in Tipton, Kansas, the son of Adolph and Margaret Ketter Pahls. He died on Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit, Kansas at the age of 91 years, 5 months, and 12 days.
Ed, as he was known, grew up and attended school around Tipton. As a teenager, he moved to Salina, where he did roofing work at the Schilling Air Force Base. He later moved to Tipton, where he worked and managed the Farmway COOP station for 38 years.
On November 15, 1945, he was united in marriage with Cecilia "Sis" Engelbert at St. John's Catholic Church in Beloit. They were privileged to spend nearly 71 years of marriage together, and six children were born to this union.
After Ed retired, he kept busy in wood crafts, and he and Sis would regularly attend area craft shows. He also acquired his pilot's license, and flew airplanes for 20 years. Ed was a good family man, and they spent many weekends at Waconda Lake together. He was a member of the St. Boniface Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Lions Club, and was very active in the community as a volunteer fireman, serving on the City Council, the Church Council, and was a past President of the School Board.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Marian Pestinger, Margie Schmeideler, and Mary Beth Girard; two brothers, Wilfred and Adolph Jr.; and a son-in-law, Gale Schroeder.
Ed is survived by his wife Sis; children, Reta Schroeder of Tipton, Joe Pahls of Smith Center, Marilyn Goheen and husband Brad of Beloit, Michael Pahls of Glasco, Betty Eilert and husband Tim of Beloit, and Patrick Pahls of Littleton, CO; two brothers, Walter of Salina, and Jack of Tipton; 13 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be at 10 AM Saturday, October 1, 2016 at the St. Boniface Catholic Church in Tipton. A parish rosary will be at 7 PM Friday, September 30 at the Church, & visitation will be from 5 PM until the rosary service begins on Friday at the Church. Memorials may be given to the St. Boniface Memorial Trust Fund or Tipton Schools. Per his request, the casket will remain closed.
