Anna Eldora (Riedel) Arrighi, 89, of Beloit, KS, died on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at the Mitchell County Hospital Resident Care Center in Beloit from cancer.
Eldora was born on October 14, 1927 in a small farmhouse in Hayes township in Mitchell County, Kansas to Aloysius J. "Butch" and Gladys M. (Fisher) Riedel. She was the second of three children.
She grew up on the family farm helping with much of the farming chores and tasks. During that time she and her family experienced the full gamut of the hardships of the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl years.
When not working on the farm, she attended Lone Hill grade school, a one-room country schoolhouse, located a mile and a half from the farm. Eldora moved to Beloit and attended St. John's High School in Beloit and graduated in 1945.
Following high school she moved to Sabetha, Kansas to attend the nursing school at St. Anthony's Hospital and received a Registered Nursing degree. She continued working as a nurse in surgery at St. Anthony's and two years later she returned to Beloit to work at the Mitchell County Hospital.
While working in Beloit she met Richard Charles Arrighi. They were married on September 4, 1950 and they raised three children, living together until her husband passed away in 2013..
She was a devout member of St John's Catholic Church and active in the Ladies Guild for many years. She was an accomplished seamstress and was an avid quilter.
She is survived by her children Dr. David Arrighi, Abilene, TX, Carol Ann Wells, Boerne, TX and Thomas J. Arrighi, Washington, MO, four grandchildren, Juliana Arrighi, Portland OR, Kelsey Arrighi, Chicago, IL, Amanda Wells, Houston TX, and Austin Wells, Houston, TX, and by her sister, Rachel M. Moritz, Beloit, and two nieces, Kris Hansen, Beloit and Marilyn Herman, Wichita, KS.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Richard C. Arrighi and her brother, Charles M. Riedel of Glen Elder.
Funeral services will be at 10 AM Tuesday, April 18 at St. John's Catholic Church. A rosary service will be at 6:30 PM Monday & visitation will begin at 1 PM with family present from 5 PM until the rosary service at the McDonald Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the St. John's Memorial Trust Fund or Solomon Valley Hospice.
