Elizabeth Adeline Brinker of Glen Elder passed away on Holy Thursday, March 24, 2016 at Hilltop Lodge in Beloit, Kansas at the age of 95 years, 4 months, and 10 days.
Betty, as she was known to the Brinkers and loved by all, was one of thirteen children born to Gerhardt and Mary Ann Dittlinger Bruggeman on November 14, 1920 in New Almelo, Kansas. The family lived on a farm and survived the Great Depression and dust storms in western Kansas during the 1930's.
Betty met her future husband John F. Brinker from Cawker City while she was working at the Oak Bend Dairy in Beloit during World War II when he was home on leave from the United States Army in 1943 before being sent to the Pacific. They were married in 1946 and then established their home on a farm north of Glen Elder, Kansas for 52 years before retiring in Glen Elder.
A very practical and down-to-earth person, Betty was a talented seamstress, gardener and homemaker. She was a loving mother and grandmother who was always available to help her family and friends in need.
She was a faithful member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Cawker City. In addition, she was a member of the Glen Elder American Legion Auxiliary.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, devoted husband John, daughter Marlene Zieger and husband Ronald; sisters Sophia (husband Albert) Otter, Helena (husband Joseph) Otter, Frances (Sr. Liguori), Agnes (husband Leo) Otter, Louise (husband Leo) Nible, twin sister Mary Margaret (husband Robert) Linden, Antoinette Bruggeman; brothers Leo Bruggeman(wife Lois), Ambrose Bruggeman (wife Virginia), Gerald Bruggeman (Fr. Gerry), and Alfred Bruggeman; brother-in-law Wendelin Riedel, Brinker-in-laws Charles, Alice (Sr. Claudia), Grace (Sr. Claudea), Francis (wife Julia), and Louise (husband Frank Grief).
Left to mourn her passing and celebrate her life are her daughter Jane and husband Larry Magne of Penn's Park, PA, son Lee and wife Karen (Dillner)of Glen Elder, daughter Karen and husband Norman Dexter of Lee's Summit, MO; granddaughters Danielle Keller Marston (husband Brent), Sydney Dexter, Jarret Brinker (wife Lindsay) and Kimberly Brinker Cheney (husband Drew); great grandchildren Brody, Roman, and Tristan Marston; one sister Regina Riedel of St. Peters, KS, sister-in-law Carroll Bruggeman of Phillipsburg, and many, many caring nieces and nephews.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. Monday, March 28, 2016 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Cawker City. Burial will follow in Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church or Solomon Valley Hospice. Visitation will be at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Sunday with the Parish Vigil and Rosary following at 7:00 P.M.
