Elizabeth was born on Tuesday, September 5, 1916 to Ossie and Christine Borgen Wooster in their home on a farm two miles east of Beloit, Kansas. She departed this life on Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at the age of 94 years at the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit, Kansas.
Elizabeth grew up a farm girl, but her parents sent her to school in town. She graduated from Beloit High School in 1934. After high school she worked as a beautician in downtown Beloit until her marriage to Donovan Otis Chapman in 1938. From this union were born five children Janyce Christine, Donna Eileen, Cheryl Sue, Gregory Bruce, and Timothy Joseph. After their marriage Donovan worked on major construction projects in Arkansas and Kansas and Elizabeth traveled with him. In 1942 they moved back to the Beloit area and began building a home at 210 N. Walnut in 1946. During this time Donovan worked in various capacities for the city and eventually became Street Commissioner of Beloit.
In the mid-1950's Elizabeth had Donovan build a beauty shop for her on the back of their home and that was the beginning of "Betheileen's Beauty Salon." Elizabeth worked in her beauty shop while raising her family and continued doing beauty work for patrons well into her eighties. She was an excellent beautician and confidant to many women in the Beloit area.
Elizabeth was a loving mother and good home maker. She was a constant helping hand to her husband Donovan, assisting him on the farm and in building their home. She loved music, growing flowers, gardening, cooking, crocheting and spending time with her grandchildren. Elizabeth was well known for her fried chicken and cinnamon rolls, which always disappeared in the pot luck lines before any of the family could get to them.
Elizabeth was a faithful Christian attending First Baptist Church early in life and then later First Christian Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, three brothers and three sisters.
Left to mourn her passing are her five children, ten grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday at First Baptist Church with burial following in Elmwood Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Solomon Valley Hospice or the Mitchell County Home Health Department. Friends may call from 9 AM until 8 PM Friday at the McDonald Funeral Home.
