Elizabeth Hope Gentry was born on January 18, 1927 in Scottsville, Kansas, the daughter of James Earl and Margaret Motes. She died Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at the Mitchell County Hospital Resident Care Center in Beloit, Kansas at the age of 92.
Elizabeth grew up in Scottsville and later graduated from Scottsville High School.
Shortly after World War II, she met George Gentry and on August 30, 1946 they were united in marriage. They lived on a farm just outside of Simpson, Kansas for many years before retiring and moving to Glasco, Kansas.
She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, and was also active in the Order of the Eastern Star for many years.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, George, her brother, Sam Motes, and her sister, Mirth Merritt.
She is survived by her son, Lyle Gentry and wife Theresa of Wichita, KS; granddaughter, Elizabeth Ann Gentry; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Wednesday, January 22 at the Roberts Family Funeral Home followed by burial in Glasco Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-7 PM Tuesday, January 21 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Resident Care Center.
