Ella Elizabeth Richard was born on June 28, 1914 on a farm near Glasco, Kansas, the daughter of Lemmit and Estella Davis Amspacker. She died Wednesday, May 17, 2006 at Hilltop Lodge in Beloit, Kansas at the age of 91 years, 10 months, and 19 days.
She grew up and attended the Welcome School District #66.
On May 20, 1941, she was united in marriage to Mark Albert Richard in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Glasco. Two daughters were born to this union. They were privileged to spend more than 46 years of marriage together until his death in January of 1988.
After their marriage, they lived on a farm near Meredith, Kansas before moving to Courtland in 1947. Following Mark's death, she moved to Beloit.
Ella was a great seamstress and cook. She also loved to crochet, go dancing, and playing cards. She cherished her time with her girls.
She was a member of the St. Edward's Catholic Church in Belleville, and later the St. John's Catholic Church in Beloit.
Ella was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Mark; one grandson, Matthew Godfrey; two brothers, Oscar and Lowell Amspacker; and four sisters, Neva Flewelling, Anna Grittman, Vera Horn, and Gwen Henning.
She is survived by her two daughters, Roberta and her husband Terry Powers of Beloit, and Linda and her husband Bill Godfrey of Soldotna, Alaska; six grandchildren, Terrance Powers and his wife Jenny of Arvada, CO, Monique Powers of Wichita, Todd Godfrey of Nome, AK, Tanya Laymon of Anchorage, AK, Troy Godfrey and his wife Tami of Wasilla, AK, and Mark Godfrey and his friend Kristine Ongly of Anchorage; nine great grandchildren, Spencer and Rebecca Powers, Amber Laymon, and Kory, Colton, Chance, Maia, Christen, and Malia Godfrey; one sister, Coral Bray of Concordia; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Saturday, May 20, 2006 at the St. John's Catholic Church in Beloit with burial in St. Peter's Cemetery near Meredith, Kansas. A parish rosary will be said at 7:00 PM Friday, and visitation will be from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM Friday at the McDonald Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to the Solomon Valley Hospice, American Cancer Society, or the St. John's Memorial Trust Fund.
