Elodie S. Terry, age 77, of Georgetown, Texas, died Monday, October 20, 2008 in Austin, Texas. She was born March 2, 1931, in Lake Charles, Louisiana. To Sim and Maude Shattuck.
Dee married Robert J. Terry on February 18, 1955, in Lake Charles, Louisiana. They were inseparable for over 52 years, until Bob's death on September 23, 2007. They always represented the model of what a marriage should be, a perfect partnership.
During her younger years, Dee was a tireless and doting mother, despite working full time and being a homemaker. Later in life she was an avid golfer who achieved 3 holes-in-one. She loved the outdoors, gardening, and knitting. While living her young adult life in Lafayette, Louisiana, she was elected the President of a non-profit group that provided education and proper living facilities for wayward children. Many of "her" children from the group went on to live productive and profitable lives, thanks in part to her influence.
Dee was most known for her humility and kindness. She never disliked or judged anyone she met; that is, until you crossed her. Woe is he that disrespected this kind and gentle woman. Her children were constantly amazed at the voluminous unsolicited comments, from strangers and friends alike, regarding what a "sweet" lady she was. It rarely took more than one encounter with Dee to love her. It became a source of pride for her two sons, and they still strive, probably in vain, to achieve that same universal love.
She is survived by a son, Craig Terry of Austin; and son and daughter-in-law, Brent and Lydia of Austin; and her grandchildren Drew Terry, Ian Terry, Luke Terry, Lindsay Terry, and Grace Terry.
Graveside memorial services will be at 2:30 PM Saturday, October 25 at the Glenwood Cemetery in Glen Elder.
