Emily Maxine Vint Gales, 86 of Saugus, California, died Monday, December 6, 2010 after suffering a massive stroke at Henry Mayo Hospital. Children and grandchildren surrounded her before her passing.
Emily was born February 19, 1924 to Major and Bessie Slaven Vint. In 1945, she moved to southern California to be close to her brother Vinton and wife Louise Vint. Then she met and married Harold Nelson and had two children, Helen and James De Nelson. Later, she met and married Clyde Gales and had two children Gary and Celeste. Emily worked most of her life as an assembler in the San Fernando Valley. She then retired and went back to Glen Elder, Kansas in 1985 to be near her brothers and sisters. While in Glen Elder, she attended the Friends Church and was a birthright Quaker. Emily worked as a caregiver. She took many tours with her sisters Dorothy McKinney, Marjorie Porter and cousin Jessie Muck. In May, 1993 Emily moved back to California to be with her youngest grandson, Kevin Conway of Saugus. She has been an active member of T.O.P.S. for over 35 years. Emily regularly attended the Santa Clarita Senior Center twice a week. She loved playing buffet and bingo and visiting with her many friends. She attended the Village Church of Santa Clarita with her daughter Celeste Russell.
She was preceded in death by her brothers John L. Vint, James Duane Vint, and Vinton C. Vint; sisters Marjorie Porter and Dorothy McKinney.
Of seven brothers and sisters, her remaining sibling is Virginia Beth Feerer of Hutchinson, Kansas.
Emily is survived by her daughter Helen Conway and son-in-law David Conway of Saugus; son James De Nelson of Newhall, CA, Gary Gales of Canyon Country, CA; daughter Celeste Russell of Springfield, MO; grandchildren Rosanne and Gilbert Pimental of Sylmar, CA, Nicole and Jesse White of Greeley, CO, Isaac and Liza Nunez of Barstow, CA; Dava and Erik Lundquist of Quebeck, TN; Adam Nunez of Springfield, MO, Viviana Nunez of Springfield, MO, and Kevin Conway of Saugus, CA. She has many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Pastor Rich Miller of the Glen Elder Friends Church will lead the graveside services on Monday, December 13, 2010 at 2 o'clock at the Glenwood Cemetery, Glen Elder. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given to the Glen Elder Friends Church.
Emily will lie in repose from 9 o'clock until 1 o'clock Monday at the McDonald Funeral Home.
