Enid Lucille Caroline Lawson was born to Charles John and Ellen Selena Hautamaki Waara at Negaunee, Michigan on November 4, 1924. She departed this life of 89 years Thursday evening, February 20, 2014 at Hilltop Lodge in Beloit, Kansas.
"Sandy" as she was truly known and loved by all, grew up in a large family. She came from a family of iron ore miners. She graduated from Negaunee High School.
It was on October 3, 1953 that she married Kenton K. Lawson at Ketchikan, Alaska. Four children John, Michael, Lanna and Kim, were added to this happy union.
While Sandy and her family lived in a number of places over the years, most of her life was spent in Stockton, Kansas where she and her husband managed the J-Mart Convenience Store. Patrons loved her witty, always upbeat demeanor. After many successful years, they retired and ultimately moved to Beloit, Kansas to be near family in 2004.
A friendly, witty, and strong willed person, Sandy loved every moment of her life. In her younger days, she and her family enjoyed digging snake root. She loved kids and was always young at heart. Always competitive, Sandy enjoyed playing board games, cards, working crossword puzzles, and watching sports, especially the Kansas City Royals on t.v. No family reunion was complete without a baseball game with Sandy at the helm. She enjoyed gardening.
She was baptized into Christ in the Lutheran Church and while in Stockton, she and her husband attended the Congregational Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one son John J. Lawson, siblings: Goldie Mae Waara, Ruby Helen Dantoin, Laura Lillian Waara, Leo Edwin Waara, Ronald Edward Waara, Irma Elaine Potilla, Dagmar Waara, Maria Loraine Waara, Kaarlo Jacob Waara; one grandson Kevin Lawson.
