Eric Lynn Harvey was born on December 10, 1963 in Beloit, Kansas, the son of Loren and Carolyn Eller Harvey. He died Monday, May 27, 2013 at the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit at the age of 49 years, 5 months, and 17 days.
Eric was a life-long resident of Beloit. He grew up and attended Beloit schools, graduating from Beloit High School in 1983. He then attended Cloud County Community College for a couple of years, and later attended the NCK Vo-Tech in Beloit, where he received certificates in brick laying and in parts management. He helped on various projects in the area, including the Beloit Medical Center. And for many years, he was known as a custodian and the crosswalk guard for the Beloit Elementary School.
He was very involved in several organizations including Boy Scouts, where he served as the Troop 98 Commissioner. He also had a great passion of involvement with the Masons Mt. Vernon Lodge #145, where he was Master three times and was a current officer, the Royal Arch Masons, the KS York Rite Chapter of Beloit, Cyrene Cmdry. #23, the NCK Shrine Club, the Isis Shrine Temple, and the Order of the Eastern Star, Naomi Chapter #28.
Eric loved the outdoors – hunting, fishing, and camping, and as a youngster could always be found playing in the dirt or the sandbox. And during harvest, he would help out at the Farmway COOP elevator.
He loved to joke around with people, and that was a great sign that he liked you. Eric also greatly enjoyed spending time and joking around with his niece and nephews.
Eric is survived by his parents, Loren and Carolyn of the home; his brother, Leroy and his wife Winsome of McPherson; his nephews, Gavin and Collin, his niece, Isabella; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 PM Friday, May 31 at the Beloit First United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 9 AM to 8 PM Thursday at the McDonald Funeral Home, with family present from 6-7:30 PM. Memorials may be given to the Church or the NCK Shrine Club Travel Fund.
