Erick T. Baird, 51 of Ozawkie, Kansas died Thursday, June 25, 2009 at the Universiy of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas.

Erick was born December 12, 1957 in Beloit, Kansas, the son of Lyle and Stella Schwerman Baird. He married Tammy Slate on January 15, 1977. The couple lived in Superior, Nebraska for several years where he worked for Mid America Dairymen. They later moved to northern Arizona where he was the foreman for Tom Chauncy Ranches. Erick has spent the last 14 years of his life working for Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad where he was the Topeka Roadmaster for the Kansas East Division. He was also an avid horseman and avid outdoorsman.

He was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Meriden, Kansas.

Erick was preceded in death by his father, Lyle Baird, one sister Elizabeth Parr, and his father-in-law Babe Slate.

Survivors include his wife Tammy and son Austin of the home; mother Stella Baird of Beloit; one brother David Baird and wife Margo of Mankato, Kansas; sisters Diane Gronewaller, Joyce Robinson and husband Jim both of Beloit, Norma Conrad and husband Wendel of Alma, Kansas, June Pumphrey and husband Paul of Mankato along with many other relatives and friends.

Father Joseph Kieffer will celebrate the Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM Monday, June 29 at St. John's Catholic Church in Beloit followed by burial in St. John's Cemetery. A Parish Vigil and Rosary will be held at 7:00 PM Sunday at the Church. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM Sunday at the McDonald Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to the PH Foundation.
