Esther Florene Clark, the daughter of Harold Clayton and Gladys Althea Durham Laughrey, was born February 18, 1922 at Glen Elder, Kansas. Following a rather lengthy illness, she departed this life of 84 years, 11 months and 11 days Monday evening, January 29, 2007 at the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit, Kansas.
On August 9, 1940, she was united in marriage with Lorenzo Ray Clark at Mankato, Kansas. They lived for a few years in Wichita, and this union was blessed with twelve children Calvin, Kathy, Alice, Wade, Mike, Cass, Lola, Rick, Mark, Wilma, Ron, and Larry Clark.
In 1950, she and her family returned to Beloit. Mr. Clark was a mechanic for Moritz Implement Company, and she enjoyed taking care of her large family. "Home" was where her heart was, and she loved hosting large family gatherings and having her grandchildren and great grandchildren present.
Besides her large family, Esther enjoyed working word search puzzles and perhaps best of all, playing BINGO with her friends. She had a deep affinity for country music along with a quick wit, and a keen ability to remember birthdays and anniversaries of all of her family.
She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and the Ladies Altar Guild.
Her husband Ray died in 1976. In addition, she was preceded in death by one son Wade Clark in 1968, one sister Lola Paulsen, and two brothers Raymond and Eugene Laughrey.
Left to mourn her passing and celebrate her life are her children Calvin Clark & wife Ann, Germantown, Tennessee, Kathy Grandy & husband Cal of Topeka, Alice Derfler & husband Jerry of Topeka, Mike Clark & wife Deb of Beloit, Cass Clark of Beloit, Lola Porter & husband George of Delphos, Rick Clark & wife Tammy of Ham Lake, Minnesota, Mark Clark & wife Nancy of Beloit, Wilma Burk of Salina, Ron Clark of Beloit, Larry Clark of Salina; 20 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, 2 expected great grandchildren and a host of many relatives and friends.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, February 1, 2007 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church by Father Larry Letourneau. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association, American Cancer Society or the Ameridan Diabetes Association. Mrs. Clark will lie in state from 9:00 A.M. until 8:00 P.M. Wednesday where the Funeral Vigil with Rosary Service will be held at 6:00 P.M.
