Eva V. Borgen
Eva Vestella Borgen, the daughter of Walter and Bertha Bulson Butler, was born October 13, 1907, on the Butler Family Farm south of Glasco, Kansas. She died March 9, 2006, at the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit, Kansas, at the age of 98 years, 4 months and 27 days.
Eva grew up on the farm and attended Prairie View Country School. She graduated from Glasco High School with the Class of 1925, and received her teaching certificate from Emporia State Teachers College. She taught 4th, 5th, and 6th grades at Asherville for three years.
On September 1, 1932, Eva was united in marriage with Rexford R. Borgen at the family farm at Butlerville, Kansas, and one son was born to that union. They made their home on the Borgen Farm near Asherville for many years before moving to Beloit. The couple had been privileged to spend 72 years of married life together at the time of Rexford's death in 2004.
In 1967, Eva returned to college to complete her bachelor's degree and taught at Cawker City and Glen Elder for several years. She was a member of the Beloit Baptist Church, the Order of the Eastern Star, the Rebekah Lodge, the Athena Club, and the Beloit Music Club.
Survivors include her son, William and wife, Barbara Borgen of Colorado Springs; three grandchildren, Jan Fay and her friend William Mailloux, Jeff Borgen and his wife, Kim, and Jay Borgen and his wife, Lisa; and two great grandchildren, Brianna and Ryan Borgen.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and two step-brothers, C.L. and Ward Butler.
Funeral Services will be at 10:30 AM Monday, March 13, at the McDonald Funeral Home in Beloit with burial in Elmwood Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Solomon Valley Hospice or The Beloit Library Building Fund. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home.
