Florence E. Jordan

May 31, 1920 — January 14, 2016

Florence Emma Jordan passed away peacefully on January 14, 2016 after spending her 95th Christmas Holidays with all of her children and grandchildren.

Affectionately known as "Bo" from childhood, she was born May 31, 1920 in Wagon Mound, New Mexico to Reverend Bernard C. and Neva (Kruse) Eutsler. Due to Rev. Eutsler's work in the United Brethren Church, the family moved a great deal and lived in New Mexico, Colorado, Ohio, and Kansas.

Florence first attended college at York College, York, Nebraska where she met her future husband, Roy U. Jordan of Beloit, Kansas. She graduated from New Mexico Highlands University in 1945 with a major in History and double minor in Education and English. Prior to her marriage, she taught grade school in Roy, New Mexico, helping to support her widowed mother and two youngest sisters.

On May 29, 1952, she married Roy in Las Vegas, New Mexico and the couple settled in Concordia, Kansas. They later moved to Emporia, when Roy set up private practice as an attorney at law. The couple lived their entire married life in Emporia, raising two children there. They were long time members of and were extremely active in the United Methodist Church.

Florence enjoyed reading, especially historical biographies, gardening, and bird watching. The family traveled every summer on camping trips, attended Jordan and Eutsler family reunions, and attended cultural events such as concerts and theater. Florence continued her avid interest in history, whether it was touring the architecture of Christopher Wren in London, or visiting ancient sites in Japan with her daughter. She took special pride in her German heritage and was known for her sense of humor and devotion to her family.

In 2005, she moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to be near her daughter's family.

Florence is survived by daughter Brenda G. Jordan and husband Hiroshi Nara, son Brian C. Jordan and wife Christine Jordan, grandsons Ryan and Alec, and granddaughter Erika; three sisters Margaret Koontz, Anita Miller, Neva Ramirez and sister in law Maggie Eutsler.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, January 23, 2016 at the Pleasant View United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Elmira Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Hope Made Real. There will be no visitation.
