Frances L. Sporleder

August 14, 1920 — May 12, 2012

Frances Lucille Sporleder passed away at the Mitchell County Hospital after a brief illness on Saturday, May 12, 2012, to spend Mother's Day with family in Heaven.
She was born into a family of 14 children to Katie Louise (Hollaway) and Boyd Albert Laflen, Sr. on August 14, 1920 in Beloit, Kansas. She grew up during the depression, knowing the meaning of hard work, working in Goule's Café and housekeeping for others while still very young. She attended the United Brethren Church at a young age and later the United Methodist Church, finding great strength in her faith.
She married Harry Sporleder on October 17, 1940. She worked in many of the local restaurants for over 20 years. They also farmed until they moved to Beloit in 1968. She enjoyed embroidery, crossword puzzles, and playing bingo and cards with her children and grandchildren before her eyesight failed. She loved to listen to polka music. Frances was easygoing and had a pleasant nature with a good sense of humor with a quick smile and ready laugh. Frances was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary.
She and her husband were parents of nine children: Cecil (Margaret) Sporleder, Barbara St. John, Rosemary Witt, all of Beloit, Marjorie (Jerry) LaFary, Roger (Jean) Sporleder, Roy (Tammy) Sporleder, all of Wichita, and Dennis Sporleder of Galva. Michael died in 2004 and Stanley died in infancy in 1955. Surviving siblings include: Donna (Merlin) Kruse, Dale (Marjorie) Laflen, Richard (Beverly) Laflen, Vernon (Caroline) Laflen, Kathryn (Norbert) Laue, and Mary Oviatt. Those preceding her in death were her parents, her husband Harry in 1973, brothers Roy, Donald, and Boyd, Jr., sisters Alice, Alta Jean, Maxine, and Harriett, as well as four grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She leaves a legacy of her children: 36 grandchildren, 82 great grandchildren, 40 great-great grandchildren, and many friends, nieces, and nephews to mourn her loss and celebrate her life.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Thursday, May 17 at the McDonald Funeral Home followed by burial in Pleasant View Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to Solomon Valley Hospice or the VFW Post #6242.
