Francis "Sam" Long was born on August 25, 1927 in Clayton, Kansas, the son of Adolph and Ollie Pool Long. He died Saturday, May 13, 2017 at the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit, Kansas at the age of 89 years, 8 months, and 18 days.
Sam grew up and attended school in Norton County.
On August 5, 1952, he was united in marriage with Alvera Juenemann in the St. Francis Catholic Church in Norton. They were privileged to spend nearly 65 years of marriage together.
In 1960, they moved to Beloit, and he worked as the office manager for the COOP Feedmill for 30 years.
Sam was a devoted husband, and he greatly enjoyed his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He spent his spare time hunting, fishing, boating, and traveling, and especially loved doing carpentry work.
He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, and was a 3rd and 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council #921.
Sam was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Andrew, Howard, Marion, and Ernest; and sisters, Margaret Bates, Lavina McCloud, Christina Deneke, and Nora Deneke.
He is survived by his wife Alvera of the home; daughters, Diana McConnell of Oregon City, Oregon and Arleen Alley of Delphos; sons, Edward and wife Lisa of Beloit, James and wife Denise of Downs, Steven and wife Beverly of Osborne, and John and wife Jennifer of Eugene, Oregon; 12 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be on Wednesday, May 17 at 10AM at the St. John's Catholic Church. Visitation will be Tuesday from 1PM-4PM at the funeral home. Rosary-Vigil will be at the church at 7PM. Memorials may be given to Masses or Donor's Choice.
