Francis "Frank" Stramel was born on August 9, 1932 in Hays, Kansas, the youngest of 9 children to Clemens and Anna Gibler Stramel. He died on October 11, 2024 at the Downs Care & Rehab Center in Downs, Kansas at the age of 92.
Frank grew up and attended school in Hays. Following graduation, he attended Ft. Hays State for a couple of years before serving in the United States Air Force.
He worked for the United States Post Office for 27 years, and after his retirement moved to Glen Elder. He kept busy in his spare time, refereeing for 32 years, and delivering meals for the Glen Elder Senior Center for nearly 20 years.
Frank married Rita Flinn on October 27, 1990. They enjoyed traveling together, and spent many winters in Arizona golfing with friends. Along with golfing, he enjoyed fishing, and reading many books. He was also a dedicated member of the American Legion Post #143
He was preceded in death by his parents, and several siblings.
Frank is survived by his wife, Rita of the home; children, Dallas Stramel, Mica Stramel, Melissa Hunt, Jeryl Smith and husband Ron, Judith Aller and husband Jim, and Jay Flinn and his significant other, Ronna Chitwood; his brother, James Stramel; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren, with a sixth on the way.
Graveside services will be at 10 AM Saturday, October 26 at the Glenwood Cemetery in Glen Elder. Cremation has taken place & there will be no visitation. Memorials may be given to the Downs Care & Rehab Center or Glen Elder American Legion Post #143.
