Gene D. Carlton

Gene Dwane Carlton was born on December 14, 1927 in Jewell, Kansas, the son of Royal James and Ruby Pearl Roberts Carlton. He passed away on Monday, September 4, 2017 at the Mitchell County Hospital Resident Care Center at the age of 89 years, 8 months, and 21 days.

Gene grew up in Jewell County with his seven brothers and three sisters.

On November 10, 1950, he was united in marriage with Georgia A. Rarick in Jewell. They were privileged to spend 47 years of marriage together until her death in August, 1998. Three children were born to this union – Nancy, Steve, and Troy.

Gene worked in Jewell, Jamestown, and Downs before moving to Beloit in 1966, where he worked as custodian for U.S.D. 273 for many years before retiring at age 60.

After his retirement, Gene stayed busy going to auctions, raising sheep with Ed DeVore, and caring for his yard and home.

In addition to his wife, Gene was preceded in death by his parents; son Steve; daughter Nancy Hyman; and grandson Mark Railsback.

Gene is survived by his son Troy and wife Angie of Omaha; five grandchildren, Cassie and husband Tim Guenther of Sacramento CA, Savannah and husband Derrick Hazlett of LaVista NE, Alivia Carlton, Grant Carlton, and Mindy and husband Josh Wingler of Salina; three great grandchildren, Lily, Mason, and Nathanial; his sister Dora Maze of Ellsworth; and a host of other relatives and friends.
