Gene Duane Kimerer was born April 30, 1930 to Walter Raymond and Gracie M. Fenton Kimerer on a farm east of Hunter, Kansas. He was released from a lengthy illness early Saturday, July 4, 2009 at the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit. Gene was 79 years, 2 months and 4 days of age.
A lifetime resident of Mitchell County, Gene grew up in the Victor community and graduated from Hunter High School in the Class of 1949.
On July 16, 1950, he was united in marriage to Joice A. Wiese at the Blue Hill Church near Hunter. This union was blessed with four children Kevin, Kim, Kody, and Kelly.
Gene learned customer satisfaction at an early age. He began working for Farmway COOP in Hunter and for many years had a propane delivery business. On June 2, 1961, he began his current job as a vehicle salesman for Beloit Motor Company. He was quick with figures and always had a deal on his mind. Always sensitive to the customer's needs, Gene quickly built a reputation of honesty and integrity and made purchasing a vehicle an enjoyable experience. People knew that Gene's warm, friendly handshake was an honest deal.
Besides work, Gene loved his family. Together, they spent many weekends together camping and fishing at the lake. During the summers, they would take a drive through Colorado. He obtained his pilot's license in the early 1970's and enjoyed flying for many years. An accomplished athlete himself, Gene loved sports and always encouraged his children to do their best.
Gene was a charter member of the Hunter Lions Club. In addition, he was a member of the Mt. Vernon Lodge #145 AF&AM, served on the Board of Directors at the former Farmer's State Bank in Hunter and was on the Hunter School Board when the new elementary school was constructed. He was active in the former Beloit BPOE Lodge, serving all chairs including Exalted Ruler. Gene loved golf and was a member of the Beloit Country Club.
He was a deacon at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hunter and a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Beloit.
His parents, one brother Norman Kimerer, two sisters Helen Catherman and Freda Hartzel preceded him in death. In addition, he was preceded in death by one grandchild Samantha Gentry.
Left to mourn his passing and celebrate his life are his beloved wife Joice of the home, children Kevin Deets and husband Doug of Manhattan, Kim Halderson and husband Dane of Delphos, Kody Gentry and husband Rick of Abilene, Kansas, Kelly Kimerer and wife Gilletta of Beloit; one sister Jackie Andrews and husband Carl of Salina; ten grandchildren, one great grandchild, four nephews, and a host of many relatives, friends, and satisfied customers.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at the McDonald Funeral Home with Pastor Matt Schneider officiating. Burial will be in Round Springs Cemetery near Hunter. Memorials may be given to the Beloit Lions Cookie Baseball Program or the Gene D. Kimerer Golf Scholarship. Friends may call from 9:00 A.M. until 8:00 P.M. Monday at the McDonald Funeral Home.
