Geneva Porter

Glen Elder

Geneva Beth Porter, daughter of Clifford O. and Blanche M. Luckey Brunnemer was born January 15, 1926 in Glen Elder, KS. She departed this life at Mitchell County Hospital on November 9, 2020 at the age of 94.

Geneva grew up and attended school in Glen Elder and graduated from Glen Elder High School in 1944.  She attended Kansas State University graduating with a BS in Business.  She went on to obtain her teaching degree. Geneva first taught business at Barnard High School. On December 24, 1949 she married Sherman R. Jackson of Barnard. That spring they moved to Glen Elder and then in the summer of 1951 to a farm south of Glen Elder. To this union three sons were born. Sherman passed away on December 17, 1966.

Geneva went on to teach business at Glen Elder High School, 1st and 2nd grades at Glen Elder, all ages at Round Top Country School, 5th grade at Glen Elder and 3 rd grade at Tipton.  Her time with children was not done, because she now had grandchildren to love and help care for.

Geneva married Homer Porter on February 24, 1974. Homer "Shorty" passed away in March 31, 1980. Geneva later went back to work part time as a paraprofessional at Glen Elder Grade School for six years.  She volunteered at the Glen Elder Senior Center for many years. Geneva was a member of the Glen Elder United Methodist Church and the Mary Circle.

Those who were blessed in sharing her love and survive her are sons Monte J. Jackson, Glen Elder; Gregory S. Jackson and wife Alice, Bennington and James A. Jackson and wife Denise, Glen Elder. Her grandchildren Jeremy Jackson and wife Jennifer, Topeka; Megan Miller and husband Charles, Kearney, Missouri; Samuel Jackson, and Concepcion, Bennington, Jerica King and husband Tony, Beloit; and Joshua Jackson, Glen Elder. Her great-grandchildren Ethan & Kaitlin Jackson, Topeka; Ruby and Race Miller, Kearney, Missouri; Jace, Jett and Anna Louise Jackson, Bennington; Tegan King, Kansas City, Truitt and Keller King, Beloit; one brother William J. Brunnemer and wife Jayne, Hideaway, TX.

Preceding Geneva in death, in addition to her parents and husbands,-- are sister Bonnie J. Margreiter and niece Patricia Brunnemer.

Memorial services will be at 2 PM Saturday, November 14 at the Glen Elder United Methodist Church followed by interment at Glenwood Cemetery. Cremation was chosen & there will be no visitation. Memorials may be given to the Church or Glen Elder Senior Center.
