George Anthony Eilert was born June 13, 1928 to Anthony H. and Anna Marie Budke Eilert on the family farm near Beloit, Kansas. While in the presence of his loving family, he departed this life of 88 years Thursday afternoon, August 18, 2016 at the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit.
George grew up on the farm and graduated from St. John's High School.
It was on September 6, 1949 that he was united in the bonds of Holy Matrimony to Anita Madeline Brummer at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Tipton. This loving union was blessed with thirteen children Kathy, Marlene, Darlene, Debbie, Sondra, Diane, Mary, Joan, Tim, Henry, Gary, Karen, and Donna.
A lifetime resident of the Beloit area, George enjoyed helping on the family farm, and in 1951 accepted a position at Farmway COOP where he worked at the feed mill. During his career of over 35 years, he saw a vast number of changes including the construction of the present day feed mill on the east edge of Beloit. He retired in 1988 and continued to help his brother Donald on the farm as long as his health allowed.
A true patriarch, George cherished his family and his endless circle of friends. He loved to reminisce and relive days gone by. He loved his grandchildren and every grandchild had the pleasure of listening to "his ticker" as he had an artificial heart valve installed in 1972. He loved large family gatherings and always looked forward to Christmas. George enjoyed hunting. He was always available and willing to help anyone in need.
George was a kind and caring person who truly loved AA. He was a living testament to the wondrous values of AA and was passionate in sharing various facets of AA to anyone genuinely interested. He was a founding member of Club 86 (AA Meeting Hall) and instrumental in getting the facility built.
He was a devoted member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
His parents, daughter Debbie Wilcox, brothers Paul, Ralph, Harold, Robert, Father Richard Eilert, and his sister Marcella Hake preceded him in death.
