George "Edwin" Jordan

November 1, 1909 — January 13, 2014

George "Edwin" Jordan was born November 1, 1909 at the home south of Beloit to Charles Aurelius Jordan and Rosina Barbara Geiser Jordan. He passed on to his heavenly home on January 13, 2014 at the age of 104 years, 2 months, and 12 days. Edwin was the second of eight children born to the couple.
Edwin attended Elmira Rural School starting at age 5 so his 6 year old sister did not have to walk the 1 ½ miles by herself. He graduated from Beloit High School and following graduation he started farming and ranching. After several years, Edwin attended Kansas State Agricultural College for one year. While there he was active in crops and meats judging, and member of ROTC and Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity. Edwin then returned to farming and ranching, living where he was born and raised in Center Township. He was known as the Bee Keeper of Mitchell County for many years maintaining 5 hives.
On December 25, 1938, Edwin married Clela Remus at her parents' home north of Solomon Rapids. To this union were born two children, Elizabeth and Carl.
Edwin's passion in life were his "Polled Hereford" cattle which he started raising in 1928 and continued until 2009. His cows came before all else because they were God's creatures trusted to his care. Edwin served in many organizations during his lifetime: Pleasant View Methodist Church, Elmira Cemetery Board, County Extension, and Center School Board.
Edwin was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Clela; his brothers, Frank, Kenneth, Ernest, Charles "Junior"; and his sisters, Ruth Snyder, Mary Regnier, and Alice Kadel.
He is survived by his son Carl (Sharon) Jordan, Glen Elder, and daughter Elizabeth (Berye) Reese of Richfield, Utah; grandchildren, Brent (Beth) Reese, Richfield, Utah, Brenda (Brice) Formo, Salt Lake City, Utah, Shawna Jordan, Manhattan, and Brian (Amy) Jordan, Topeka; and 8 great grandchildren, Leah Reese, Robyn Reese, Thomas Reese, Katie Reese, Victoria Reese, Reese Formo, Ava Jordan, and Mae Jordan.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Friday, January 17 at the McDonald Funeral Home followed by burial in Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 AM to 8 PM Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to Solomon Valley Hospice or Pleasant View United Methodist Church.
