George J. Kirgis

February 18, 1922 — March 6, 2006

George Junior Kirgis, an only child, was born February 16, 1922 in his grandparents house on North Walnut Street in Beloit to George and Ruth Caple Kirgis.
He grew up on the family farm five miles west of Beloit, Kansas and at age 16 began full farming responsibilities. He graduated from Solomon Rapids District #11 Rural School and Beloit High School.
On July 17, 1974, he married Kathleen Annis. They resided on the farm in Jewell County, Kansas.
George was a loyal friend who would come to the aid of anyone in need. He was especially fond of his cousin Vera Barron and enjoyed cooking dishes she liked.
He was proud of his work as a farmer and stockman. He was awarded the Kansas Bankers Association Conservation Award in 1995. When he was terminally ill, one of his last concerns was the care of his land.
He was always grateful for any assistance he received from others. He will be sorely missed by family, friends, neighbors, and others.
George fought the effects of emphysema for many years before succumbing at the age of 84 on March 6, 2006 at the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and is survived by his wife Kathleen of the home; two step-daughters Lisa Asch and husband Bradley of Moore, Oklahoma and Laurie Huezo of Fremont, California; one step-son Stephan Annis and wife Ksenia of New Waverly, Texas; and two grandchildren Nathanial Asch and Lucas Huezo.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M. Friday, March 10, 2006 at the McDonald Funeral Homed with Rev. Lyle Miller officiating. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Jewell County Health Department, and friends may call from 9:00 A.M. until 8:00 P.M. Thursday at the McDonald Funeral Home.
