Gerald W. "Jerry" Koster, passed away peacefully on August 25, 2014 with his family and friends by his side at the UT Southwestern Hospital in Dallas, Texas after a long, courageous 10 month battle with complications of Scleroderma. He was diagnosed with this auto-immune disease 30 years ago.
Jerry was born on September 6, 1952 in Beloit, Kansas to Rosaline and Richard Koster of Cawker City, Kansas. He graduated from Cawker City High School in May, 1970 and North Central Kansas Area Vocational Technical School of Beloit in Computer Programming in May, 1971.
Jerry was a long-time resident of Carrollton, Texas where he worked as a computer programmer and called Texas home. Family was very important to Jerry. He told his friends and family how much he loved his brothers and their wives, but he was especially proud of his nieces and nephews. He endeared himself to many with his eagerness to help and treating everyone with extreme kindness. He loved life even though he suffered in pain for many years in silence. He was so excited whenever he was able to make trips to the wine country in California with his dear friends, Bonnie and Jerry Kenan. He loved a good glass of wine, good music, and was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan with season tickets for 15 years. His hobbies were taking care of his Lexus and beloved Porsche. He was meticulous in keeping his cars in mint condition.
He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Koster, and a great-nephew, Ethan Koster.
Jerry is survived by his mother, Rosaline Koster; his brothers and their wives, Tom and Dona Koster of Manhattan, KS, Darry and Anna Koster of Hong Kong, and Barry and Jill Koster of Leawood, KS. Other family members include his nephews and their wives, Shane and Janis Koster, Justin and Jenny Koster, all of Olathe, KS, and Chase Koster of Leawood; nieces and husband, Lindsay and Jeff McPeak of Lincoln, NE, Jenna Koster of Manhattan, Kayleigh Koster of Prairie Village, KS, and Allie Koster of Leawood; two great-nephews; four great-nieces; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and many good friends mourn his passing.
A funeral mass will be at 10:00 AM Wednesday, September 3 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Cawker City, followed by burial in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Cawker City. Visitation will start at 5:00 PM, and be followed by a Parish Rosary service at 7:00 PM Tuesday at the Church. Memorials may be given to the Church or the Scleroderma Foundation.
