Gerald Lavon Lienberger was born May 20, 1923 to Marsden Madison and Elsie Myrtle Taylor Lienberger on his grandparent's farm west of Randall, Kansas. He departed this life of 86 years and 19days Monday evening, June 8, 2009 at the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit, Kansas.
Gerald was raised with two sisters and two brothers, and attended school in Randall, graduating from Randall High School in the Class of 1941. While in high school, he loved sports and played baseball and basketball.
On June 12, 1942 he married his high school sweetheart Virginia St. John at Jamestown. They moved to St. Ed, Nebraska. Following the death of their firstborn son David, they moved back to Randall and Gerald was called to serve his country in the United States Army during World War II. After his return, they farmed in the Randall area where their two children Sharon and Rex were born.
Gerald was a hardworking man who enjoyed life and farming. When the work was done, he and Virginia enjoyed square dancing, camping, and fishing, and went to Texas for 22 years. He enjoyed helping Virginia with her flower garden. As the grandchildren grew, they enjoyed attending all of their activities. Always game for a good time, he enjoyed shooting pool and playing jokes on others.
He was a proud member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6242, Moose Lodge and the Randall Community Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son David, one brother Howard, one sister Darlene Abling, and his beloved wife Virginia.
Survivors are his daughter Sharon Jewitt and husband John of Lincoln, Nebraska, Rex Lienberger and special friend Deb Young of Salina, Kansas; one brother Glade Lienberger and wife Esther of Phillipsburg, Kansas; one sister Betty St. John of Hastings, Nebraska; seven grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, and many friends.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, June 11, 2009 at the Randall Community Church with Pastor Dan Daniels officiating. Burial will follow in the Randall Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Randall Community Church, and friends may call from 9:00 A.M. until 8:00 P.M. Wednesday at the McDonald Funeral Home.
