Harold Eugene Flavin was born on May 8, 1929 in Mitchell County, Kansas, the youngest of John and Elizabeth (Heinen) Flavin's six children. Harold married Leona (Jasper) Flavin on April 11th, 1959 in Sts. Peter and Paul Church in Cawker City, Kansas. Leona and Harold raised their five children on a small farm north of CawkerCity where Harold was raised as a child.
He died on March 29, 2014 at the McPhersonCareCenter in McPherson, Kansas at the age of 84 years.
Harold was a devout Catholic and a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church of Cawker City. He also was a member of the American Legion, VFW, and the Knights of Columbus. Harold was a military veteran and served in the Army from 1952-1954.
Harold farmed most of his life. His family will remember him for his family genealogy, his appreciation of music, and love of the land. Until very recently, Harold was enjoying picking berries and planting trees. He was pleased that the farm and land continues to thrive and be enjoyed.
Harold was preceded in death by his wife, Leona, on March 31, 2013. Also preceding him in death was his parents, John Flavin and Elizabeth (Heinen) Family and his brothers Edward (Pat), James, Maurice; and his sister, Mary Kriley. Harold is survived by his five children: Karin (Dave) O'Reilly of McPherson, Kansas; John Flavin of Olathe, Kansas; Jeanne Flavin (Pierre Diaz ) of New York City; Elaine Flagg (Mitch) of Palmer, Alaska; and Craig Flavin of Salina, Kansas; as well as four grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and his sister, Sr. Edwardine (Marcella) Flavin, C.S.J.
The children of Harold & Leona Flavin are grateful to the community people, Solomon Valley Hospice and Home Health, Harden Hospice in McPherson, Kansas; and our extended family for your many gestures of support and kindness the last two years.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Wednesday, April 2 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Cawker City. A parish rosary service will be at 7 PM Tuesday, April 1 at the Church, and visitation will be from 5 PM until the rosary service begins at the Church. Memorials may be given to Solomon Valley Hospice or Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church.
