Harold "Sass" Greiner

June 29, 1926 — February 6, 2012

Harold Dewain Greiner was born on June 29, 1926 on a farm south of Hunter, Kansas, the son of Nick and Bertha Blundon Greiner. He died Monday, February 6, 2012 at Hilltop Lodge in Beloit, Kansas at the age of 85 years, 7 months, and 7 days.
"Sass", as everyone knew him, grew up in the Hunter area. His family moved their belongings in a wagon pulled by horses. Sass hooked his wagon with a few toys on the back to the house where he continued to live the rest of his life. He later graduated from Hunter High School in 1944. Following graduation, he served in the United States Army before returning in December 1945.
On June 16, 1947, he was united in marriage with Wanda G. Parsons at the Hunter Lutheran Church. Two children were born to this union. They were privileged to spend more than 60 years of marriage together until her death in May 2008.
Sass was a farmer and stockman at heart. He had a cattle herd, milked cows for 30 years, and also raised hogs to finish. He planted wheat, milo, alfalfa, and also some oats.
He helped with building the grade school and the Trinity Lutheran Church, pushing a wheel barrow full of concrete in each project.
Sass loved to take the boat out on Wilson Lake, and greatly enjoyed traveling with his family on vacations in Colorado.
In addition to his wife, Sass was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Gilbert; two sisters, Deloris Nily and Mildred Hoober; and a grandson, Alec Waggoner.
Sass is survived by his son, Doug and wife Mary of LaCygne; his daughter, Pat Waggoner and her husband Rex of Beloit; one sister, Maurine Adkins; six grandchildren, Christina Foreman and husband Tanner, Molly, Miranda, Savannah, and Devin Greiner, and Egan Waggoner; one great grandchild, Rilyn Greiner; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Saturday, February 10 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hunter. Visitation will be from 9 AM to 8 PM Friday at the McDonald Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to the church or Solomon Valley Hospice.
