Harold Howard Munsey was born June 14, 1927 to Howard and Edna Rosa Moyer Munsey on a farm near Glen Elder, Kansas. He departed this life of 78 years, 10 months, and 14 days late Tuesday afternoon, April 18, 2006 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas.
Harold attended all eight years of grade school at the High Prairie Country School and then graduated from Glen Elder High School in the Class of 1945. He was drafted into the United States Navy and spent the remainder of World War II stationed at San Diego.
Upon his honorable discharge, Harold returned "home" to the Glen Elder community, He farmed with his step father Arnold Schellinger until 1949 when he rented the Moyer homestead, and on August 2, 1949 he married Annabelle Green of Scottsville. This happy marriage was blessed with three daughters Cynthia Ann, Beverly Sue, and Joleen Kay.
In 1960, Harold and Ann sold their farming interests and moved to Beloit. He started working for Farmway COOP, and for twenty years was the propane salesman. Children on his route always knew that he would have bubblegum in his pockets for them. He delivered refined fuels until his retirement in 1990.
After retirement, Harold stayed busy painting houses and was always happy to help others. Harold never met a stranger. He and Ann took many trips throughout the county in their fifth wheel camper.
In September, 2004, their health declined and they became residents of Cherry Creek Retirement Center in Wichita.
Harold was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church, Beloit. In addition, he was a 54 year member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge #130 of Beloit.
He was preceded in death by his father Howard Munsey, his step father Arnold Schellinger and his mother Edna Schellinger.
Left to mourn his passing and celebrate his life are his wife Ann of 56 years; daughters Cynthia McMann and husband Ray of Wichita, Beverly Matthews and husband George, Jolene Davidson and husband David all of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; one brother Edward Schellinger and wife Darlene of Middleville, Michigan; one sister Joy Priddy of Emporia, Kansas; one brother-in-law Delton Green of Lawrence, Kansas; five grandchildren Sandra Deering, Angela Wilkinson, Tim McMann, Kristin Matthews, Shelley Davidson; one great grandson Trevor Deering; a host of nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday at First United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the church. Mr. Munsey will lie in state at the McDonald Funeral Home from 9:00 A.M. until 8:00 P.M. Friday.
