Harold Duane Staley was born on January 30, 1934 on the family farm south of Glen Elder, Kansas, the son of Henry and Beulah Luckey Staley. He died early Sunday, June 11, 2017 at the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit, Kansas at the age of 83 years, 4 months, and 12 days.
Harold grew up in the Glen Elder area, and graduated from Glen Elder High School. After graduating he joined the Army in 1953, and was in the Air Borne. He broke his legs so bad that they told him if he did it again they would have to amputate. He then was transferred to Germany where he was a gunner in a tank and also tank commander. After being discharged, he went to business school in Salina, Minnesota, and Colorado. He then worked for R.C. Cola in Beloit for 5 years. He then worked for the railroad as a telegrapher for 17 years. He then worked at the Solomon Valley Feedlot until they laid off all the "old people". He then was employed by the Beloit Daily Call, until he was unable to work any longer.
Harold was a kid at heart, and loved to fish and hunt, and play cards with his numerous nieces and nephews. He also bowled for many years, and even after moving to the Resident Care Center, loved to bowl on the Nintendo Wii.
He was a member of the VFW Post #6242 of Beloit.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents; and his siblings, Ralph, Florine McMillan, Robert, Jim, Richard, Ruth Mishler, Betty Eakin, and Lila Bunch.
He is survived by his sister, Judy Mallory of Jewell; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Wednesday, June 14 at the Beloit First Christian Church. Visitation with family will be from 6-8 PM Tuesday at the Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Church or the American Heart Association.
