Harriet Virginia Chapman was born October 15, 1924 to Eugene "Gene" and Rachel Kelsey Donley at Oxford, Kansas. She departed this life of 92 years Monday afternoon, November 28, 2016 at the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit, Kansas.
A graduate of Oxford High School, Harriet continued her education at Kansas State University in Manhattan where she received her degree in Social Work. While at KSU, she met her future husband, George Melvin Chapman who was in Veterinary School.
On Easter Sunday, 1946, she and George were married in Fargo, North Dakota. Three children Linda, Scott, and Randy were born to this union of 70 years.
Harriet and George made their home in Beloit, Kansas. Dr. Chapman had a veterinary clinic. After raising her family, Harriet resumed her career of serving those in need as a social worker for SRS and the Mitchell County Hospital until her retirement.
Harriet was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Beloit.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Ben Donley and his wife Arlene.
Left to celebrate her life are her husband Dr. George M. "Doc" Chapman of Beloit; daughter Linda Delp and husband Tony of St. John, KS; sons Scott Chapman and wife Mary Jane of Beloit, Randy Chapman and wife Shirley of Glasco; grandchildren Jeff (Deana) Delp, Tempe, AZ, Joel (Sarah) Delp, St. John, KS, Justin (Elisa) Delp, Chandler, AZ, Seth (Lindsay) Chapman, Sioux Falls, SD, Rachel (Jonathan) Steele, Washington, D.C., George Chapman, Beloit; great grandchildren Alina Delp, Elijah, Emmet & Cecilia Delp and Rowan Steele.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday, December 2, 2016 at Zion Lutheran Church with Pastor Rick Raymer officiating. Private interment will be in Glasco Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Zion Lutheran Church or the Mitchell Co. Hospital Regional Medical Foundation. Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. until 8:00 P.M. Thursday at the McDonald Funeral Home. The casket will not be open at the service.
