Hazel Burnette

Hazel Cammel Bean Burnette beloved Mother, Sister and Grandmother, one of eleven children of Charles Cammel and Julia Van Houtan Cammel was born November 29, 1905 near Hanover, Kansas, Washington County. Hazel passed away early Friday, March 24, 2006 at the Mitchell County Hospital Long Term Care Unit in Beloit at the age of 100 years, 3 months, and 25 days.
She attended school in Lone Star, Washington County through the third grade.
At the age of 17 Hazel came to Beloit September 17, 1922. She was united in marriage to Francis William Bean on November 23, 1925 at the probate judge's office in Beloit, Kansas. To this union were born three children: Pauline, Phyllis and Bill. Hazel and Francis moved to Beloit in 1942 where she has lived the rest of her life. Mr. and Mrs. Bean celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary in 1950. Francis was stricken with sickness and passed away on January 15, 1964. In 1971 Hazel married Bill Burnette. He passed away in 1986.
Hazel enjoyed traveling, family gathering, knitting, crocheting, and going to church, Club and Lodge meetings. She baby sat after Francis passed away with children of families in Beloit, including Pat and Harold Heidrick's three children. She was fondly known as "Beanie".
Since 1986 she has lived alone with the aid of her friend and neighbor, Erma Criswell, while taking care of herself, cooking and cleaning until the end of June, 2003. She became ill at that time and unable to care for herself.
Hazel was a member of Rebekkah Lodge #58 PN Grand L.E.A. in Beloit, WSCS of Methodist Church and was a member of the Sorosis Club. She served as Rebekkah Noble Grand for one year. In 1963 the Declaration of Chivalry was conferred on Sister Hazel the highest degree of the order. In 1992 and 1993 she was the Chaplin of Rebekkah and Lodge Deputy. She was a faithful member to all the orders. Hazel attended the Methodist Church, which she joined February 13, 1921 at Marysville, Kansas.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her two husbands, Francis Bean, and Bill Burnette; three sisters; and five brothers.
Hazel is survived by two daughters, Pauline Donabauer of Salina, and Phyllis Winder of Wichita; one son, Bill Bean of Colorado Springs, Colorado; two sisters, Della Meyer of Fresno, California, and Josephine Smith of Othello, Washington; two sisters-in-law, Lois Bean of Beloit and Paulina Bean of McPherson; 10 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 10 great-great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Monday, March 27, 2006 at the First United Methodist Church in Beloit, with burial in Elmwood Cemetery in Beloit. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM Sunday with the family receiving friends from 6:30 to 7:30 at McDonald Funeral Home in Beloit. Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association.
