Hazel May Yeager, the daughter of John Sylvester and Minnie Elnora Odle Huffman, was born March 6, 1909 on a farm south of Beloit, Kansas. She departed this life of 97 years, two months, and one day late Sunday afternoon, May 7, 2006 at Hilltop Lodge in Beloit, Kansas.
Following her graduation from Asherville High School (where she was the valedictorian of her class) and the Hutchinson Business College, she enjoyed a 10 year career with the Kansas Power and Light Company as a bookkeeper prior to her marriage to Andy Yeager, a local pharmacist. To this union two daughters Martha Jane and Rosemary were born.
Hazel's family was her first priority and she was always there to guide, assist, and encourage her girls, both directly and indirectly. In addition to her family and friends, Hazel enjoyed and took great pride in her sewing, needlework, especially tatting and quilting, and her garden.
Hazel was a devoted member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church where she was active in the St. John's Ladies Guild.
Besides her church, Hazel was an over 50 year member of the Mulberry FCE. She always looked forward to the meetings and friendships of the other members. She always enjoyed everyone's visits, especially after her move to the Hilltop Lodge Nursing Home.
Hazel was preceded in death by her parents and one brother Ernest Huffman. In addition, her husband Andy preceded her in death on November 10, 1971.
Survivors are her two daughters Martha Jane McLaughlin and husband Frank of Middleton, New Hampshire, Rosemary Watson and husband Wayne of Edmond, Oklahoma, and one grandson Jason Andrew Watson of Edmond, Oklahoma.
Martha Jane and Rosemary ask that you not grieve long that their mother died, but celebrate with them that she lived.
Father Larry Letourneau will celebrate the Funeral Mass at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, May 10, 2006 at St. John The Baptist Catholic Church. Interment will follow in St. John's Cemetery.
