Helen Maurine Adkins was born July 14, 1922 to Nick and Bertha Blundon Greiner on a farm near Hunter, Kansas. Her Heavenly release from a lengthy illness came early Sunday, January 6, 2013 at the Nicol Home in Glasco, Kansas at the age of 90 years, 5 months, and 23 days.

Helen attended school in Hunter and graduated from Hunter High School in the Class of 1940.

On May 31, 1942, she married Leo Virgil Adkins at the Presbyterian Manse in Concordia. They were the parents of Thomas, Lois, Lynn, Julia, and Marilyn. They made their home on a farm north of Glasco.

Helen loved farm life. She especially enjoyed working in her garden and tending to her flowers. An excellent cook, she was known for her fresh-baked rolls, sticky cinnamon rolls, macaroni and cheese and her Christmas candy. Helen spent many hours canning her garden produce and making pickles.

Besides her home, she treasured her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was always willing to go to the creek bridge to throw rocks in the creek. Helen also enjoyed watching their sporting events.

Helen was a supporter of the Methodist Church in Glasco.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband Leo in 1994; her daughter Lois who died in infancy, brothers Gilbert and Harold Greiner, and her sisters Mildred Hoober and Delores Nily.

Left to mourn her passing and celebrate her life are her children Thomas Adkins and wife Pamela of Bonner Springs, Kansas, Lynn Meister and husband Jack of Hamilton, Illinois, Julia Johnson and husband Ronnie of Delphos, Kansas, Marilyn Flanigan and husband Dennis of Kansas City, Missouri; five grandchildren: Andy Adkins (Kristy), Kristy Smith (Jeff), Kurt Meister (Angie), Janae Espinoza (Lance), Nicholas Johnson (Meredith); eleven great grandchildren Christopher, Katelyn, A.J., Mason, Lincoln, Lillian, Alayna, Kylee, Hannah, Chase, and Rylin; a host of many relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday at the Dean Funeral Home with Pastor Michele McHenry officiating. Burial will follow in Glasco Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Nicol Home or the Charity of the Donor's Choice. Friends may call from 4:00 PM until 7 PM Tuesday at the Dean Funeral Home.
