Helen L. Hoffman

March 10, 1913 — June 6, 2009

Helen Louise Hoffman was born March 10, 1913 to Fred J. and Amy Elizabeth Hendricks Runft on a farm south of Glen Elder, Kansas. She departed this life of 96 years, 2 months, 27 days late Saturday afternoon, June 6, 2009 at Parkview Manor Care Center in Osborne, Kansas.

A lifetime resident of Mitchell County, Helen graduated from Cawker City High School where she took normal training. She taught school at the Haseltine School near Cawker City.

On August 15, 1933 she was united in marriage to Raymond Everett Hoffman, and to this union were born two children Kenley and Karen. Helen and Everett farmed in the Tipton vicinity for several years, later building a new home in the country next to the farm where Kenley and Linda now reside. They enjoyed farm life and she took great pride in being an integral part of the Tipton EHU, 4H Club. Helen was an instrumental part of the family farming operation. Everett passed away on August 12, 1986 and she remained on the farm for several years until moving to Beloit.

A kindhearted, family matriarch, Helen's pride was her family. Always there for them, she took care of her mother Amy until her death and was always at Everett's side until his death. Helen was an avid quilter and loved growing flowers, especially iris and roses. She enjoyed being close to her family and friends and rarely missed any of her grandchildren's school or sporting events. Helen was a very caring person always remembering others, sending cards and notes and she always had "special treats" for guests who would stop by to see her. Helen also was a devout KC Royals fan and listened in whenever possible.

Helen was a member of the Cawker City United Methodist Church and an associate member of the Beloit United Methodist Church.

Her parents, one brother Doyle Runft, grandson-in-law Wade Lyle and her husband Everett preceded her in death.

She is survived by her son Kenley Hoffman and wife Linda of Tipton, Kansas, one daughter Karen Hoffman of Centennial, Colorado; three grandchildren Kevin and wife Lisa, Tricia Fry and husband Michael all of Salina, Kansas and Melissa Lyle land friend Tarry Fisher of Cawker City, Kansas. Five great grandchildren Chandler, Lydia, and Hannah Hoffman of Salina; Peyton Fry of Salina, Chantell Lyle of Cawker City, and one great-great grandchild Kale Lyle of Cawker City.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church in Cawker City with Pastors Ryan Lynch and Glenn Fogo officiating. Burial will follow in Prairie Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the church or Solomon Valley Hospice. Friends may call from 11:00 A.M. until 8:00 P.M. Monday at the McDonald Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 6:30 PM-7:30 PM.
