Helene "Helen" Ann Fischer Schroeder was born northeast of Tipton, KS on March 30, 1921, twin daughter of Alphonse P. & Elizabeth Krier Fischer. She departed this life at Lincoln Park Manor, Lincoln, KS on August 2, 2011 where she had resided since November, 2007.
When Helen was 5 years old, the family moved to a farm near Wallace, KS. Later her family moved to a ranch north of Marienthal, KS where she attended country schools. She then moved to Colby where she worked for various families cooking, cleaning & caring for children. This modeled her in later years to become a very good mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
As a homemaker, Helen enjoyed sewing, cooking, and tending to her flower and vegetable gardens of which she always had plenty to share with family and friends. She was a devoted, faithful member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and the St. Ann's Altar Society, holding various offices.
On April 19, 1939 she married Herman C. Schroeder in St. Paul's Catholic Church, Angelus, KS. They began their married life on the farm that Herman had purchased as a young man southwest of Tipton. They were privileged to share 61 years together before Herman's death on August 20, 2000. Also preceding her in death were her parents, oldest son Alan; brothers Gene & Wayne Fischer; twin sister Christine Schroeder & infants Leander, Agatha, Delores & Charles.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Elizabeth Jean (Lawrence) Pahls, Salina; sons Robert (Judy) Schroeder, Lincoln, David Schroeder, Tipton; sisters Matilda Schreck, Marienthal, Mary Ann Schreck, Tipton, MO, Margaret Jacobs, Solomon; sisters-in-law Mary Ann Fischer, Parker, CO, Susie Fischer, LaVeta, Co, Peggy Schroeder Brummer, Downs; five grandchildren Brian (Laura) Pahls, Tipton, Lisa (Dale)Merklein, Salina, Brent (Jennie) Pahls, Sylvan Grove, Lance (Paula) Wilton, Angel (Jeremy) Vath all of Lincoln; eight great grandchildren Dustin Ashley, Hannah, and Mina Pahls; Bailey and Layne Wilton, Chantz and Jaycee Vath; many nieces, nephews, & friends.
The Funeral Mass will be held at 10 AM Friday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Tipton with burial in St. Boniface Cemetery. The Parish Vigil & Rosary will be held at 7:30 P.M. Thursday the church. Memorials may be given to Hospice of Salina, Tipton Schools or Masses. McDonald Funeral Home, Beloit is in charge of arrangements.
