Homer Thomas Pursley III, of Almond, WI, passed away Sunday, March 16, 2025, surrounded by the love and care of hospice and his sister Joyce by his side, a testament to the enduring power of family and compassion. Homer was born June 24, 1955, in Kansas City, Kansas, the son of Homer Thomas Pursley II and Joyce Darlene Pursley.
Homer attended St. Anthony's Grade School before graduating from Wyandotte High School. His courageous spirit led him to join the Navy where he rose to the rank of Aviation Machinist's Mate Petty Officer Second Class while stationed in Key West, FL. He was awarded the Humanitarian Service Medal and Good Conduct Award. Following his service, he pursued electrical technician work in Colorado before landing in Wisconsin, the place he called home for the majority of his life. He pursued further education in electronics by attending Northwood Technical College, embodying his innate curiosity and thirst for knowledge.
He was then united in marriage and blessed with a daughter, Mariah, who illuminated his life with joy. Though his marriage dissolved, his unwavering love for Mariah remained a guiding force.
Homer made an impact on those he met, dedicating much of his time to volunteering and service to others. His passion for supporting veterans led him to actively volunteer with the American Legion, DAV, VFW, and Forty & Eight. His devotion to the Catholic faith was a beacon of hope and strength, leading him to membership and community through St. Stephens of Stevens Point, WI, the Franciscan Third Order and the Knights of Columbus. Homer had countless hobbies he enjoyed over the years, such as creating pottery, gardening, playing pool, sketching, flying remote controlled airplanes, and tinkering. Homer will be remembered for his laughter, creativity, and passion for his community.
Homer was preceded in death by his parents, Homer Thomas and Joyce Darlene Pursley, sister Margaret E. NovoGradac, brothers Jack Edward, George Francis, Michael Anthony, and brothers-in-law Al NovoGradac, Dennis Gerrity, and Paul T Graff II.
He is survived by his loving daughter Mariah (Anna) Pursley (Fort Collins, CO), brother and sisters Joyce Graff (Beloit), Loretta (Mark) Goodin (Baytown, TX), Genevieve Kalcic (Gladstone, MO), Ronald Joseph (Quenemo, KS), Charlotte Farabee (Parkville, MO), MaryJo Gerrity (Lenexa, KS), and Winnie (Jim) Shockley (Independence, MO) as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends who will deeply miss him and celebrate his extraordinary life.
Memorial services will take place at 10:30 AM Friday, April 4 at the St. Mary-St. Anthony Catholic Church in Kansas City, Kansas before final burial at the Wisconsin Veteran's Memorial Cemetery. Cremation has taken place.
