Irene B. Kleppinger was born in Kenwood, Iowa on February 27, 1914. She was the fourth oldest of 12 children of Claude and Mary Blackman. She died early Tuesday, June 26, 2007 at the Jewell County Hospital in Mankato, Kansas at the age of 93.
She attended Denison High School graduating in 1932. She acquired her Normal Training Certificate for the State of Iowa in 1932 which allowed her to teach in any public school in Iowa. However, she chose to work in the high school office as secretary to the Superintendent. She enjoyed her work at the high school so she could keep up with her younger siblings. Irene also obtained her nurses training in Iowa City, Iowa. In the 1940's she attended Central Bible Institute in Springfield, Missouri.
Irene and Rev. Albert E. Kleppinger married July 16, 1944 at the Jewell Assembly of God Church. They were life-long marriage partners until his death in August, 1999. Mrs. Kleppinger was an active wife participating in all area of ministry with her husband. They started churches in Denison, Iowa and Orange City, Iowa and served churches in Broken Bow, Nebraska and Ellsworth, Kansas. Pastor Kleppinger and Irene started a prison ministry in Ellsworth, which they continued until Albert passed away.
Irene is survived by her children: son, David (wife Sharon) and daughter Crystal (husband Merwin), granddaughter Michelle, daughter of David and Sharon and great granddaughter Michaela. In addition her sisters Mary Ann (husband Howard) Clark and Jean Bauer and brother Mike Blackman, and sisters-in-law Virginia Blackman of Baltimore, MD, and Rose Kleppinger of Belleville, KS.
Irene will be remembered as a Christian lady of strong faith and always willing to pray with others.
She was a loving mother and wife and will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Thursday, June 28, at the Jewell Assembly of God Church with burial in the Jewell Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM Wednesday at the McDonald Funeral Home in Beloit. Memorials may be given to the Church or Jewell County Long Term Care.
