Ivan Laverne Long was born on September 26, 1934 in Minneapolis, Kansas, the son of Kenneth and Alma Bailey Long. He died Wednesday, November 6, 2019 at the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit, Kansas at the age of 85, and on his 64 th wedding anniversary.
Following his high school graduation in 1952, he rode a train to Mason City, Iowa to attend Auctioneer School.
On November 6, 1955, he was united in marriage with Donna Gaskill at the Lutheran Church in Beloit. Six children were born to this union.
Ivan served as a livestock auctioneer in Beloit, Plainville, Smith Center, Concordia, Abilene, and in Missouri, and later worked for Porter's Porkers in Glen Elder for many years. In his spare time, he greatly enjoyed fishing and hunting.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Carroll.
Ivan is survived by his wife Donna; children, Monty and Deanna Long of Hill City, Mike Long of Collyer, Madonna and LaVern Boden of Gardner, Mickey of Hayes Center, Nebraska, Mark of Beloit, and Marsha and Darrell Snyder of Concordia; 21 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be at 2 PM Friday, November 8 at the Roberts Family Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 1-7 PM with family present from 5-7 PM Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Morrison House or Family Choice.
