Jacqueline Carolina Langdon, daughter of Charles Perry Johnson and Hattie Blance Sawyer, was born November 1, 1919 in Cawker City, Kansas.
They lived in Cawker City until the dust storms. In 1934 the family moved to West Plains, Missouri. There she worked in the hospital laboratory. Jacque worked under Lucy Halter, who taught at Baylor University. After two years, she registered with the American Medical Technology Society, and worked at the North Arkansas Clinic in Batesville, Arkansas for two years. She studied all the time, and was supervisor and taught two techs who registered with the American Medical Technologists. She then went to Shreveport, Louisiana and worked in the Charity Hospital; she helped set up the Lab and x-ray for Rosewood Hospital in Hot Springs, where she stayed three years; she did supervisor work and worked in x-ray in Helena, Arkansas for 10 years; helped organize Arkansas State Society American Medical Technologists while there.
She then worked in Eldorado, Arkansas, where she met and married Maj. Donald R. Langdon on January 5, 1965 at Mountain Home, Arkansas. They moved to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where she spent two and a half years at the University. Maj. Langdon developed cancer, so they moved back to the states, and he later died in 1973.
Jacque had one sister, Frances Louise Johnson, who died in August 1983.
She was a member of AMT over 58 years, and served as President for over 50 years. During her work and membership, she received many awards: Editor of the Year, Achievement in Editing; State Society Publication Editor; 50 year pin; Distinguished Achievement in Editing; 1977 President's Award; 1990 Kansas Technologist of the Year; 1992 Exceptional Service Award; 1994 Order of the Golden Microscope; and 2004 Silver Service Award.
Jacque was the oldest registered tech. She also spent a lot of hours knitting, crocheting, and tatting, and she made many beautiful afghans. Her hands were always busy, and she enjoyed giving food to friends and neighbors.
She was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, and the Ladies Guild.
Jacque passed away on Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at Hilltop Lodge in Beloit, Kansas at the age of 93 years.
She will be missed by many friends and neighbors.
Funeral services will be at 10 AM Monday, January 28 at the Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Cawker City followed by burial in Prairie Grove Cemetery in Cawker City. Visitation will be from 6-7:30 PM Sunday, January 27 at the Waconda Funeral Chapel in Cawker City. Memorials may be given to the Church or Donor's Choice.
