James D. Blass

May 31, 1930 — February 13, 2016

James "Jim" Donald Blass was born on May 31, 1930 in Beloit, Kansas, the son of George and Pearl (Mauk) Blass. He died Saturday, February 13, 2016 at the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit at the age of 85 years, 8 months, and 13 days, with his family by his side.
Jim grew up in Beloit and graduated from Beloit High School in 1949. His mother died when Jim was very young, and he was raised by his father and grandmother, and later his step-mother Florence.
On November 18, 1950, he was united in marriage with Lois Claycamp. Seven children were born to this union. They were privileged to spend more than 65 years of marriage together.
He was always a hard worker, as he built several buildings, churches, and homes in the Beloit and surrounding communities. As his sons got older, they worked along side of him on projects, and he was always so thankful and appreciative of their efforts.
Jim was also a very dedicated family man, and greatly enjoyed following his children and grandchildren in their various activities. He was also a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, the Oddfellows Lodge, and the Mt. Vernon Masonic Lodge #145 for 47 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-mother Florence; grandson Tanner Blass; infant granddaughter Mulder; stepbrother Dick Booth; and half sister Mary Peterson.
Jim is survived by his loving wife Lois; children Terry (Dan) Mulder of Phillipsburg, Pat (Joe) Weidenhaft of Stockton, Mike (Chris) Blass of Beloit, Brenda (Jim) Tietjens of Glen Elder, Barb (Bob) Broughton of Salina, Joe (Von) Blass of Santee, California, and George Blass of Plainville; half brother Jerry (Norma) Blass of Beloit; stepbrother Bob Booth of Manor, Texas; 18 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be from 1-8 PM with family present from 6-7:30 PM Thursday at the McDonald Funeral Home.
