James "Jim" R. Nothern

James R. Nothern, 78, passed away December 16 ^th , 2017. Jim was born November 16 ^th , 1939 in Salina Kansas to Glen and Gay Nothern. After graduating from Salina High in 1957, he joined the US Navy and was stationed in Norfolk, VA on the USS Truckee (AD 147) where he was a Hospital Corpsman from 1958 to 1960, which launched his life long career in Medicine. He married Shirley (Alexander) in 1960 and graduated from Asbury School of Radiologic technique, Salina in 1963. The same year he and Shirley moved to Beloit and he joined the staff at Mitchell County Hospital.

Jim was very active in his community, which he was extremely proud of. He was an elder of the First Presbyterian Church, VFW Post No. 6242, American Legion Post No 57, Beloit Library Board and Beloit Community Orchestra among others.

Jim is survived by his wife Shirley of 57 years; Sons Chip (Karla) Nothern, Noel Nothern, Daughter Nathalie (Monte) Wessling; Grandchildren, Nick (Beth) Nothern,  Ariel Nothern, Ethan (Emily) Wessling, Carter Wessling, Gracie Wessling and Great Granddaughter Stella Nothern; Brother Austin (Marianna) Nothern.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Wednesday, December 20 followed by a luncheon at the First Presbyterian Church in Beloit. Visitation with the family will be from 5-8 PM Tuesday, December 19 at Roberts Family Funeral Home with cremation to follow. Memorials may be given to the Beloit Library or Mitchell County Regional Medical Foundation.
