Jan Jones, 78 of rural Randall, KS passed away January 12, 2025. He was born in Beloit, KS on April 18, 1946 to Max and Florence Jones.
Jan's entire education was within the Beloit, Kansas school district. He enjoyed his agriculture classes taught by Mr. Earl Baugher and was very active in his FFA Chapter. He remained good friends with Mr. Baugher his entire life. He was often eager to get out of the classroom and back to the farm to get to work. His passion was farming. He was an avid reader and self-taught on many subjects that interested him and dealt with agriculture He graduated high school in 1964.
Jan married the love of his life, farm and business partner Kathleen Baxa on August, 24, 1970 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Jamestown, Kansas. To this union were born three children, Jana Lea 1974, Kevin J 1977 and Judith Ann 1979. Jan and Kathleen were pleased to celebrate 54 years of marriage together. They were blessed with eight grandchildren. Tyler Jones, Beckett Hackney, Cole Jones, Olivia Hackney, Jurnee LeMoine, Lane Jones, Geddy LeMoine and Anna Marie Jones.
Jan worked to produce good crops and beautiful cattle. He was always looking at ways to improve and to build his legacy for the generations of family farmers to come. Jan felt farming was a family affair and each of his children helped on the farm and learned the importance of a good work ethic. He was proud of his daughter's careers and his son who worked in partnership with him. One of his greatest joys was working together, with three generations of Jones men at his side.
Jan had many dear Vo Tech students and employees who helped on the farm. He respected them, enjoyed them and many became lifelong friends. Jan also made many connections and partnerships with the local business community. He cherished those relationships, and they meant a great deal to him.
Jan was President of Farmway Credit Union Board for many years. He started as a board member at 22 years old. He was a member of the Mitchell County Fair Board for several years. He enjoyed working with the youth who were involved in the livestock program. Jan loved wildlife and nature. On his evening drives, while checking his cattle and crops he always enjoyed watching the birds and animals. He came back with many stories of what he encountered along the way.
In his final days Jan felt God's presence and peace, with his family by his side. Jan is survived by his wife Kathleen Jones; daughter Jana (Rob) Hackney, Parkville, MO, son Kevin (Katrina) Jones, Beloit, KS and Judy (Paxton) LeMoine, Manhattan, KS; grandchildren, Beckett and Olivia
Hackney, Parkville, MO, Tyler, Cole, Lane and Anna Marie Jones, Beloit KS and Jurnee and Geddy LeMoine, Manhattan, KS; sister, Joyce Skinner, Joplin, MO, niece Joy Ewing, Joplin MO and nephew Brent (Beth) Skinner, Diamond MO.
Jan's family misses him so much and looks forward to seeing him again in heaven.
Funeral services will be at 9:30 AM Thursday, January 16 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Beloit followed by burial in Pleasant Prairie Cemetery near Jewell. Visitation will be from 1-7 PM, with family present from 5-7 PM Wednesday at the Roberts Family Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to Mitchell County Hospital Respiratory Therapy Department.
