Janice D. Shumway was born May 12, 1948 to Leroy and Genevieve Fisher DeGroff in Jackson County, Missouri and died Friday, January 1, 2010 at Grand River Health Care Center in Chillicothe, Missouri.
Janice spent her childhood years living in nearby Merriam, Kansas and made her home in Shawnee. She was a homemaker and assisted her father with his business of selling janitorial supplies for the blind.
Janice enjoyed watching movies and above all, reading her Bible and was a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Survivors are her son Charles Shumway and wife Christine of Marceline, Missouri; her mother Genevieve DeGroff of Shawnee, Kansas; one sister Nancy Schendck of Lenexa, Kansas; brothers Leroy DeGroff Jr. of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Larry DeGroff of Shawnee, Ronald DeGroff of Osborne, Missouri.
Pastor Charles Shumway will officiate at services which will begin at 2:30 PM Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at the McDonald Funeral Home followed by interment at 3:00 P.M. in the Elmwood Cemetery, Beloit, Kansas.
