Janyce Christine Chapman was born on November 18, 1939, to Donovan and Elizabeth (Wooster) Chapman at the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit, Kansas. She died on March 22, 2018 at the age of 78 years old.
Janyce was born oxygen deprived and was classified as an adult child, so she spent all of her life living with her parents and family. She went to school up to the third grade, but was sent home at that age because there was no more they could do for her at that time. She had trouble with numbers, reading, and writing, but she had an excellent vocabulary. She was always coming up with new and fairly sophisticated words that she used in the proper context. She also had an excellent memory and could remember people's names when other people couldn't.
In her youth Janyce liked to ride her bike, roller skate, and dance. She could really cut a rug, and was so proud of her "Go, Go Boots" that she got in the early 1960's. Janyce liked to have fun, and was always teasing her brothers and sisters. Janyce helped around the home and in Bethaleen's Beauty Salon, which was attached to the back of the house. Janyce loved to care for babies and small children. She helped babysit and care for her younger siblings, and then for the grandchildren that came along. She always said she would have liked to have been a nurse. She helped care for her father and mother prior to their deaths. In later years she lived with her brother Tim in his home.
She liked going for rides in the car and going out to eat. Her little white schnauzer, Angie, was a kindred spirit, and a constant companion. They passed within two days of each other.
Janyce is preceded in death by her parents, and brother-in-law Elroy Kapels.
She is survived by her siblings, Donna Kapels of Creston, Nebraska, Cheryl Herbert and her husband Charles of Overland Park, Greg Chapman of Newton, and Tim Chapman of Beloit. There are five nieces, five nephews, seven grand nieces, and two grand nephews.
Funeral services will be at 10 AM Wednesday, March 28 at the Roberts Family Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 4-8 PM with family present from 6-8 PM Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to Solomon Valley Hospice.
