Jeffery Don Smith was born on May 4, 1959 in Beloit, Kansas, the son of Donald and Shirley Hancock Smith. He died unexpectedly on Friday, July 10, 2020 at his home in Cawker City, Kansas at the age of 61 years.
Jeff lived on the family farm for most of his life, and farming quickly became his passion. He attended Sts. Peter and Paul School, and later attended and graduated from Waconda East High School in 1977. During high school, he excelled in football, and was also the Homecoming King.
On April 21, 1979, he was united in marriage with Lisa Parker, and two children, Jake and Krista were born to this union, which later dissolved.
He married his second wife Kristie Miller in 1996, and they were married for 20 years before their marriage dissolved.
All Jeff ever wanted to do was farm – it wasn't always easy, but hard work and a father who did some planning had helped Jeff's dream come true. He was the best help his dad ever had, and he always wanted to do the same for his son.
In addition to his love for farming and ranching, he also enjoyed hunting, as well as drinking coffee with friends on a daily basis. He also worked at the Mankato Sale Barn for many years, and served on the Kansas Livestock Association board.
Jeff was preceded in death by his mother Shirley.
He is survived by his father Don Smith of Cawker City; his son, Jake (Becky) Smith of Glen Elder; his daughter, Krista (Jerritt) Pilcher of Beloit; his step-daughter, Amanda (Sam) Miller of Manhattan; two sisters, Jennifer (Steve) Chriestenson of Mankato and Janet (Ray) Cochran of Cawker City; 11 grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Graveside memorial services will be at 10 AM Friday, July 17 at the Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery in Cawker City. Cremation has taken place & there will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Family Expense Fund.
