Jennie Celesta Somers was born to Robert and L. Mabel Collins Whitley on September 28, 1918 on a farm northeast of Delphos, Kansas. She departed this life of 90 years, four months, and 24 days early Sunday morning, February 22, 2009 at the Ottawa County Hospital in Minneapolis, Kansas.
A lifelong resident of the Delphos community, Jennie graduated from Delphos High School in the Class of 1939.
On May 15, 1969, she was united in marriage to Carroll Dean Somers at the Delphos United Methodist Church. They were privileged to celebrate nearly forty years of marriage together.
Jennie was a kind, hard working and people loving person. She had friends wherever she went. She was a homemaker, and for a good long time was the librarian for the Delphos Library.
Avon products were a main-stay in her life. Her vibrant personality made her very successful as a retailer as she had many faithful clients. Because of the product uniqueness, she enjoyed collecting Avon as well.
Jennie was a faithful servant of the Lord. She was currently a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church.
Her parents and one brother Robert Whitley preceded her in death.
Left to mourn her passing and celebrate her life are her husband Carroll of the home; one brother Charles Whitley of Mesa, Arizona; a sister-in-law Helen Whitley of Stuart, Oklahoma; a host of many relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, February 26, 2009 at the Dean Funeral Home with Rev. Michelle McHenry officiating. Burial will be in Delphos Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Nicol Home. Friends may call from 2:00 P.M> until 8:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Dean Funeral Home in Glasco.
