Jerry Vanpelt

March 19, 1932 — November 2, 2012

Jerry Van Pelt, of Beloit, Kansas, passed from this life on Friday, 2 November 2012. He was surrounded in love by family at the hospital in Salina, Kansas when he transitioned into his Lord Jesus' arms. Just a few months earlier, Jerry's event-filled 80 years had been the occasion of a most memorable birthday celebration attended by dozens of friends and family.
Jerry, the son of Gerald and Pearl Van Pelt, married to his most precious Mary for 38 years, was the faithful father of nine: Lisa (Cordel), Candy (Spicher), Connie (Long), Jeff, Hut (Gochina), Priscilla (Shanks), Connie (Burns), Patricia (Bergmann), and Donna (Jinkens); devoted grandfather of 19, proud great grandfather of 14, and ardently appreciative brother of Vincent (Lolly), Larry (Carolyn), and Dale.
A graduate of Beloit High School (1952), Jerry served in the United States Coast Guard before beginning his farming career. Initially partnering with his father in a multifaceted farm operation west of Beloit, Jerry's innovative and inventive mind flourished. He initiated many irrigation advancements, assisted in the establishment of a major commercial cattle feed lot, designed and constructed a bridge over the Solomon River, developed advanced cattle feeding procedures, and was named the Kansas Farm Bureau farmer of the year. Jerry even expanded his repertoire to include custom cutting and building an 18-wheeler trucking business.
Jerry's friends and family will say his major attribute was his Christian witness, which fully permeated his life – resulting in a profound impact upon all. Known as a man of prayer, his legacy has been magnified over and over by all those who knew this ordained minister of the Gospel – a graduate of Rhema Bible Training Center. He personally spread the good news in Russia after the iron curtain came down. He often presided at weddings, baptisms, and other major events for many of his family.

Oh – What a beautiful life.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Wednesday, November 7 at the Beloit First Christian Church. Visitation will be from 9 AM to 8 PM Tuesday at the McDonald Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to the Jerry Van Pelt Memorial Fund.
