Jo Grace Gilbert, 77, died Monday April 4, 2011 at the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit, KS.
She was born July 5, 1933 in Oklahoma City, OK to Vance Vernon and Mae Helen Francis Prewett. In 1934 the family moved back to Kansas to the Green Mound community where Grace spent the first seven years at the Green Mound School. In 1946 the school closed and she spent the remainder of her school days in Simpson, KS where she graduated from high school in 1951.
In 1953, Grace was united in marriage to James L. Gilbert. To this union three children were born, Beverly, Timothy and Jennifer. The marriage was dissolved after 28 years.
Grace worked in retail stores for 20 Years. In 1976 Grace graduated from North Central Kansas Vo-Tech's LPN nursing program and worked at the Hilltop Lodge for 2 years. In 1984 Grace began working for the Mitchell County Law Enforcement Center as a dispatcher where she was employed for 15 Years until retiring in 1999.
Preceding Grace in death were her parents Vance and Mae, four sisters Charlotte Roderick, Margaret Chapman, Martha Abercrombie-Jordan and Carmen Gilmore and two brothers Jim and Gene Prewett.
Survivors include her three children, Beverly (Lawrence) Marquez of Ft. Polk, LA., Tim (Kathy) Gilbert of Merriam, KS and Jennifer Kempke of Ellsworth, KS., two grandsons Nicholas Marquez and Matthew Gilbert. Four grand-daughters, Amanda McClanahan-Sheesley, Gianna Marquez, Amy Mae Kempke, Emmy Lou Kempke, two great-grandkids Alyssa Grace Marquez and Bronson Joseph Sheesley.
Two step-grand daughters, one step grandson and seven step-great grandchildren.
Survivors also include a brother, Vance R. (Bud) and Joyce Prewett, of San Angelo, TX and two sisters Marianne Kinnett of Oxford, OH and Beth and Richard Anderson of Asherville, KS. And many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Friday, April 8 at the McDonald Funeral Home, followed by burial in Green Mound Cemetery near Asherville. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM Thursday, with the family receiving friends from 6:00 to 7:30 at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to Solomon Valley Hospice
