Johanna Anna Willett was born May 31, 1917 to Edward Fred and Frances Otillia Mick Hageman at Plainville, Kansas. She departed this life of 90 years, two months, and seven days early Tuesday morning, August 7, 2007 at the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit, Kansas.
"Joan", as everyone knew her, moved with her large family to Tipton, Kansas where she graduated from Tipton High School in the Class of 1934. She continued her education by taking Nurses Training at Marymount College in Salina, Kansas, graduating in 1938.
On May 1, 1939, she was united in marriage to James Edwin "Ed" Willett at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Beloit. The couple began their married life living in Junction City, and five children Donna, Kathy, Colleen,Mary Lynne, and Jim were born to this union.
In 1945, Joan and her family moved to Beloit. Besides caring for her family, she worked at Hageman's Café on South Mill Street and for many years worked as a sales clerk for J.C. Penny's and Torr's Food Store.
A kind hearted, friendly person, Joan cherished her family. She loved swimming, playing cards, and crocheting afghans for her family. In later years, she enjoyed her computer and digital camera and took great pleasure in keeping in touch and sharing her pictures with others. Joan was also very active in the church life of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, serving in the Ladies Guild. For many years, she was on the Board of Directors at Sunny Slope Manor. She enjoyed being an active member at the Beloit Senior Center.
Her husband Ed died in 1996. In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by one daughter Donna Cady in 1992, one grandson Michael Tucker, one great grandchild Allison Cady; brothers Frowin, Linus, Jim, Ronald, Francis, Harold and Kenneth Hageman, one sister Kathleen Ehlers, and a special friend Ralph McHenry.
Left to mourn her passing and celebrate her life are her children Kathy Tucker of Wichita, Colleen Sahlfeld of Beloit, Mary Lynne Bonneau and husband Don of Indianola, Iowa Jim Willett and wife Karen of North Kansas City, Missouri; two brothers Bill Hageman and wife Mary Lou of Denver, Colorado, Edwin Hageman and wife Ila of Albuquerque, New Mexico; two sisters Aline Koster and Connie Pahls both of Denver; 17 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren, and a host of many relatives and friends.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, August 11, 2007 at 10:00 A.M. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church
by Father Joseph Kieffer. Interment will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Memorials may be given to St. John's Memorial Trust Fund or the Beloit Senior Center. Friends may call from 9:00 A.M. until 8:00 P.M. Friday at the McDonald Funeral Home where the Vigil-Rosary Service will be held at 7:00 P.M. Friday evening.
