John Bernard Kruse, son of John Henry and Margaret Ann Grau Kruse, was born May 1, 1931 in the old Beloit Community Hospital in Beloit, Kansas. He departed this life of 76 years and one month on Friday, June 1, 2007 at the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit after a rather short illness.
"Jack", as everyone knew him, grew up in the family farm east of Beloit and attended Simpson High School where he graduated in 1949. He continued his education at Kansas State University in Manhattan where he was a walk-on basketball player and a member of ROTC.
On May 1, 1951, he was united in marriage to Twila V. Remus at Beloit. Five children Michael, Patrick, Kelli, Kathi, and Jerry were born to this happy union.
At a very early age, Jack developed an intense love for farming. He was a State farmer in high school and while in his career, it was his stubborn spirit of perseverance that sustained him through the good and not so good times.
Besides work, Jack was always game for a good time. He loved playing cards, and his favorite games were Gin and Black Jack. He was an accomplished athlete, having played 6 Man Football and basketball for the Simpson Coyotes. Basketball was his game, and for many years enjoyed officiating at games with his friends Arnold Krone and Francis Jorgensen. He enjoyed boating and water skiing.
He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council 921, and the National Farmers Organization.
His parents and one infant brother Jerome Kruse preceded him in death.
Survivors are his wife Twila of the home, children Mike Kruse and wife Karla of rural Beloit, Pat Kruse and wife Marilyn of Simpson, Kelli Bower and husband Scott of Wasilla, Alaska, Kathi Vetter and husband Rick of Beloit, Jerry Kruse and Genoveva of Beloit; one brother Jan Kruse and wife Carolyn of Overland Park, Kansas; two sisters Judy Williams and Janet Kruse both of Topeka, fifteen grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and a host of many relatives and friends.
